Studying with NICE
Within the CCHE accredited courses (MEd, BEd, etc), NICE teaches an integrated cluster of units in education at an advanced level in which students are exposed to a wide range of contemporary educational thought. The aim is to equip students to develop their own coherent educational theory and practice that is generated by a Christian worldview. In the process of their learning, the students are expected to evaluate critically all ideas and practices regardless of the source. NICE office, Agnes Banks, NSW In keeping with the mission of NICE, all studies are pursued within a Christian perspective on the world. John Piper (2002) in The pleasures of God puts it this way:The task of all Christian scholarship (not just biblical studies) is to study reality as a manifestation of God's glory, to speak and write about it with accuracy, and to savor the beauty of God in it. It is a massive abdication of scholarship that so many Christians do academic work with so little reference to God. (p. 298) This does not mean that the studies are restricted to Christian sources or to Christian educational thinking and practice. It is not a program of applied theology but a program within the academic discipline of education. NICE's Body of Knowledge statement demonstrates how a theoretical framework and scholarship are brought together in a coherent program of study. NICEOnline
As well as providing access to discussion forums and increasingly to study materials relating to units of study, NICEOnline provides access to general information and forms through the Information Centre. We hope that this facility continues to develop NICE's professional learning community in a manner that enhances your study with us.
